A survey of real or imagined journeys in South Asian film and literature from the anxieties of modernity towards traces of the indigenous. Combines an interest in travel literature and road movies with inquiry into human values. Examines aesthetic representations of journeys that are made to idealize a particular past or to valorize contemporary traces of indigenous communities, while exploring the perspectives on modernity afforded by these real or imagined journeys. One course.
