Introduction to the political culture of Orientalism since the 17th century. Explores the intellectual roots of Orientalism since the 17th century, the intellectual roots of European orientalism before World War I, and the rise of American Orientalism after the Second World War. Analyzes the role of Edward Said’s work in highlighting the legacy of Orientalism. The course will also examine the means and goals of neo-Orientalism in the Arab world and in the aftermath of the Arab spring. One course.
