Arab Women Writers


The emergence of women writers in the Arab world from 19th century poets to 21st century bloggers. Novels, short stories, autobiographies and poetry dealing with Arab women’s rights in the home and in politics, war, colonialism, religion and sexuality. Writers include Syrian Idilbi and Samman, Egyptian El Saadawi and Bakr, Lebanese al-Shaykh, Palestinian Khalifa, Iraqi Riverbend, Algerian Djebar. Same as AMES422S but with additional graduate level work. One course / 3 units.
