Professional Path

"After I graduated from Duke I served two years in the Peace Corps in southeastern Mongolia. Once I returned from Mongolia, I began law school."

How has AMES helped?

"Through the Arabic program, I began working with the refugee population in Durham, which led me to the Peace Corps. Tutoring Sudanese and Iraqi refugees as part of my advanced Arabic class introduced me to the refugee resettlement agency Church World Service, who I went on to teach English for. This was perfect training for my two years as an English teacher in Mongolia with the peace corps. It taught me language skills but also teaching skills and cross cultural communication skills."
