"The AMES Department provided me with a passion for the Middle East and the Arabic language. Due to the proficiency I developed in Arabic at Duke, I was able to continue to use Arabic in my graduate program in global health, and to complete my Master's thesis research this past summer in Jordan. AMES provided me with the foundation to think critically about circumstances that provoke injustice in the Middle East region, and most importantly, how the Middle East is portrayed via US news and media outlets."
