The Man With the Compound Eyes - APSI Summer 2020 Book Club: August

August 11, -
We will round out or APSI Summer Book Club with a discussion on The Man With the Compound Eyes by Taiwanese author Wu Ming-Yi.

AMES faculty members Eileen Chow and Carlos Rojas will introduce the novel and moderate discussion while faculty discussant Miguel Rojas-Sotelo will get us thinking about key environmental themes. This is a conversation you won't want to miss!

The discussion will take place Tuesday, August 11th at 3pm. Registration is required to participate in the online meeting (bit.ly/APSI-2020BookClub-August).

About the book:
When a tsunami sends a massive island made of trash crashing into the coast of Taiwan, two very different people-an outcast from a mythical country and a woman on the verge of suicide-are united in ways they never could have imagined. Intertwined with the story of their burgeoning friendship are the lives of others affected by the tsunami, from environmentalists to Taiwan's indigenous peoples-and, of course, the mysterious man with the compound eyes.

A work of lyrical beauty that combines fantasy, reality, and dystopian environmental saga, here is the English-language debut of a new and exciting award-winning voice from Taiwan.
