Jinyi received her B.A. degree in English and Chinese Studies from the State University of New York at Binghamton. Her research interests include gender studies, Sinophone cinema, and cultural studies. Her master's thesis "Feminists without Feminism: Women's Online Movement in Contemporary China" focuses on a cultural phenomenon, which she observes as reflecting limitations of both state feminism and Western neoliberal feminism.
