Xiang graduated from Nankai University with a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature. Her research interests lie in intellectual history, Sinophone literature and Chinese visual culture. Her research takes a comparative approach to examine the displacement of global cultural archetypes in modern Chinese literature. She is currently interested in the intertextuality between Chinese rural literature after the 1980s and Latin American fiction. Outside of academics, she is a casual poet who used to manage an independent bookstore during her college years. She enjoys gangster films, rock music, ballets, and almost any cultural product involving suspense and horror.
