Yongkang graduated from Duke Kunshan University with a bachelor’s degree in Global Cultural Studies, in the World Literature track. His research background focuses on the representation of Holocaust memories in postwar literature, film, and photography. He is also interested in Eurasian cinema studies and the comparative study of the manifestation of humanity in war films between Western cinema and East Asian cinema. He works in four languages, including Chinese, English, German, and Japanese, and is currently pursuing the analogue between Western and East Asian war films in regard to how humanity and sentimentalism are illustrated. In terms of East Asian regional culture, he is determined to explore modern Japanese culture, including cinema and literature. One of his favorite films is Hiroshima mon amour.
